Living Wage Cost of Living Adjustment 2026
The Living Wage Ordinance (2.121) provides, at 2.121.030 (b), that the wage shall be upwardly adjusted each year no later than March 1st in proportion to the increase in the Annual Average Consumer Price Index for the prior calendar year for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) in the Boston area, as published by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. For calendar year 2025, the CPI-U increased by 3.13%. Therefore, the new Living Wage as of March 1, 2026 is $20.32. This amount should be communicated to vendors subject to the Living Wage Ordinance and will be used to adjust pay for appropriate city employees. The adjustment does not affect any existing contractual agreements unless the terms of those agreements so require. Questions concerning applicability and enforcement of the ordinance should be directed to the City of Cambridge Law Department at 617-349- 4121 or the Purchasing Department at 617-349-4310

The approximately one-acre parcel is adjacent to Frost Terrace and will be called Frost Terrace II. Located in the heart of Porter Square, surrounded by many amenities including restaurants, retail stores, and the Porter Square MBTA station, the combined parcels total 127,668 square feet and currently contain five multi-family buildings and one single family house. The team plans to create this affordable housing under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO).

In May 2026, the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA) purchased two existing residential buildings located at 1648 & 1654 Massachusetts Avenue with financial support from the Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust (CAHT). The CHA will convert these properties to fully affordable housing as the existing market-rate units naturally turnover. The buildings contain a total of 56,614 square feet, including 62 one-bedroom units and 17 two-bedroom units and two commercial spaces. The commercial spaces are located on the first floor of the 1654 Massachusetts Avenue building and are currently leased to Huron Cleaners and Marathon Sports. Located between Harvard Square and Porter Square in Neighborhood Nine, the buildings are located in a prominent location with near access to local restaurants, shops, and public transit.
