The ground-breaking public-private collaboration that made it possible for Cambridge’s City operations to go carbon-free starting in 2026 has been recognized with an award from the Environmental Businesses Council of New England.

Partnering with the Council on Aging, the Community Development Department conducted a series of community meetings with seniors focusing on “usability, mobility, and accessibility” to transit. The goal of each meeting was to engage seniors in a discussion about their experiences with public transit, including challenges, barriers, and opportunities.

Due to structural concerns at 221 Mount Auburn Street (Riverview Condominium Building), the City of Cambridge will close segments of Mount Auburn Street and Sparks Street starting Saturday, July 19. Multiple detours and traffic changes will be in place to maintain the closure, which may last through the end of 2025.

As part of the ongoing Homeownership Program Review process, the Housing Division is inviting current owners of affordable homes to attend an information and feedback session. These meetings are being held to provide an overview of the proposed recommendations to some of the program terms, including the way units increase in value and whether units can be passed through inheritance.

We meet at Lamplighter Brewing Co., 284 Broadway, in the back taproom. This month we’ll read I Leave It Up to You by Jinwoo Chong. Copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. Just A Start (JAS) is planning to create new affordable rental housing on an existing JAS-controlled site located at 243 Broadway in the Port neighborhood. Known as Broadway Park, the site is currently an existing parking lot and will be developed in conjunction with another new JAS project, 37 Brookline Street, as a scattered-site affordable rental housing project. The new housing at both Broadway Park and 37 Brookline Street will be built to Passive House standards, ensuring maximum energy efficiency.
