Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Health Department, and our partners have been working to protect the health and safety of those who live and work in Cambridge.

The International Women's Day Planning Committee consists of nearly 50 organizations committed to gender-equity throughout the Commonwealth.

Since Friday, October 2, seven residents of a Cambridge skilled nursing facility have tested positive for COVID-19. Five of the seven individuals are current residents of the facility; the other two individuals were discharged from the facility prior to testing positive and no longer reside in Cambridge. In addition, one facility employee who does not reside in Cambridge has tested positive for COVID-19.

This public health and public safety event will once again provide residents with an opportunity to anonymously and safely dispose of their unwanted firearms and, in turn, reduce the risk of suicide, potential for an accidental discharge, or wrongdoing in a home or on our city streets.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps income-eligible Cambridge and Somerville residents pay their winter heating bills between November 1 – April 30. Applications to HEAP are accepted beginning October 1.

A member of the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe of Martha’s Vineyard MA, award-winning performing songwriter Thea Hopkins calls her music Red Roots Americana. She has been described as a “standout writer” by the Washington Post and "superb" by Americana (UK). Venues where Thea has performed include Lincoln Center (NY), Massey Hall (CN), the Kennedy Center (DC), the Atkinson (UK), the Woody Guthrie Festival and the Bluebird Cafe (TN). She first came to greater public notice when Peter, Paul & Mary recorded her song, “Jesus Is On The Wire” in 2004 and again in 2010 with the Prague Symphony Orchestra. Her new album, "Blossoms & Ghosts", released in February 2026 is both timely and timeless. Asa Peters and Jim Peters are members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers, a group that preserves and performs traditional Wampanoag dances, songs, and cultural practices. The Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers are a group of musicians, educators, and artisans from the tribal communities of Mashpee on Cape Cod, Aquinnah on Martha's Vineyard, and Herring Pond in Bourne.

While the route of the 129th Boston Marathon did not come through Cambridge, members of the CPD were heavily involved with this year’s race.
