Join us for a lively discussion of a great book in person at the Main Library! Snacks will be provided. For ages 7-10 and a parent or caregiver. This month's book is Julieta and the Diamond Enigma by Luisana Duarte Armendáriz. When a diamond goes missing from the Louvre, it is up to nine-year-old Julieta to identify the thief, exonerate her father, and return home to Boston before her baby brother is born. Includes glossary of French and Spanish words and notes about the Regent Diamond, Athena, and works of art mentioned in the book. Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Registration is required — only one registration is needed per family. Medicare Open Enrollment is the one time of the year when all people with Medicare can review, compare, enroll or dis-enroll in Medicare Advantage, Original Medicare, and Part D drug plans. Medicare Open Enrollment runs from mid-October to early December. Coverage of all plans begins January 1 of the following year. Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to review health and drug plans. This is important because health needs may change from year to year; health or drug plan may change the costs, benefits, and drug coverage they offer; provider and pharmacy networks may change. By reviewing and comparing costs and benefits of the plans available for the upcoming year, there is potential to save money and ensure appropriate coverage. This class will explain how Open Enrollment works and demonstrate the tools available to help you review your options. This workshop is led by Marion Severynse, a state-certified Medicare benefits counselor in a volunteer-led program funded in part by the Executive Office of Aging and Independence. The City of Cambridge has announced the launch of the 12th cycle of the Participatory Budgeting (PB) process. Residents will decide how to spend $1 million for winning projects that will be included in next year’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. Community members can submit ideas until October 12, 2025.

The Cambridge Redevelopment Authority (CRA), in partnership with the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House (MFNH), plans to develop a portion of the MFNH lot, located at 71 Cherry Street, into new affordable homeownership units. This development will happen in conjunction with the revitalization of the MFNH. The CRA plans on creating these new housing units under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO).

Join Nancy Porter, Director of Resilience and Emergency Preparedness with the Cambridge Public Health Department, for a discussion on how to keep yourselves and others safe in hotter temperatures. Older adults are more vulnerable in periods of high temperatures because the body cools itself down less effectively - especially if you have medical conditions or take certain medications. What’s all this fuss about fermented foods? Why are fermented foods essential for gut health, and why are they so expensive? In this class, Mo Katz-Christy will walk you through how to use any old vegetables to make delicious and nutritious fermented foods that replenish the microbiome, regulate our immune system, and more! Leave with a jar of kraut that you can share with your household. Mo Katz-Christy (they/them) is a queer Ashkenazi Jewish herbalist born and raised in Cambridge, MA on unceded Massachusett land. They approach herbalism by connecting folks to the knowledge they already have about their body and herbs through working with kitchen medicine, ancestral traditions, and mulberries falling on the sidewalk! Mo graduated from a three-year clinical herbalism program at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism in 2022. They work one-on-one with clients to address the root imbalances that are causing dysregulation and to promote long-term healing, focusing on gut health.
