This summer, My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Cambridge Task Force, in partnership with the City of Cambridge, launched a new Summer Empowerment Program for Cambridge youth. This program, which supported 50 young people in an interactive summer experience, was funded through $63,000 in City funds, $25,000 donated by Cambridge Savings Bank, and $25,000 donated by DivcoWest.

Instructions and supplies will be provided for an afternoon activity. Work with Perler Beads to follow a pattern or create your own unique design. We'll fuse the finished product into place for you to take home. Recommended for ages 6-12 with a caregiver.

Collaborate on a biodiversity banner to celebrate Moth Week with a sewing circle on July 11 and July 18. Wildlife Arts invites the community to hand sew blocks for a multi-moth fabric banner! We'll teach beginning sewers, and children old enough to handle a needle may work on caterpillar blocks (recommended for age 10 and up). You'll learn about moth biodiversity in Massachusetts and help publicize the humble and little-known world of moths. The banner will be displayed at the Cambridge Moth Ball on July 22 at Fresh Pond Reservation and will be available in the Wildlife Arts banner lending library when complete. All materials will be provided. Registration is suggested. You may attend one or both sessions. The City of Cambridge does not discriminate, including on the basis of disability. The Cambridge Community Learning Center (CLC) helps their students navigate the challenges of balancing school, work, and family.

Want to try your hand at poetry, or need a refresher on the fundamentals? This 2.5-hour workshop led by Jacob Anavisca will go over some of the building blocks of poetry (musicality, imagery, forms, etc.). Participants will be given generative exercises, and even learn a little about submitting their work for publication. Jacob Anavisca is an assistant editor of Only Poems literary magazine. His work has appeared in HNDL MAG. Registration is required.

The Community Benefits Advisory Committee is a volunteer group of community members who work together to make recommendations to the City Manager for the approval and awarding of grant agreements with nonprofit organizations for the provision of Community Benefits. Community Benefits may be programs or services provided by nonprofit organizations that directly benefit Cambridge residents.
