The Committee on Public Planting is charged with the responsibility of promoting and improving the quality and diversity of plantings throughout all areas of Cambridge. This includes reviewing planting plans for new public work in the city; advising the city on effective maintenance of public plantings; supporting the role of the Urban Forestry Division; and encouraging interest in public plantings in all neighborhoods.

Every month we will read and discuss a short story as a group. Copies of the story will be provided, and no preparation is need. Please drop in! Explore our outdoor world, get creative, and make sun prints (aka cyanotypes) at the Central Square Branch. A selection of flora, other natural materials, and simple found objects will be available to create a collage and then print with the sun. Or bring your own materials! Participants will have the opportunity to display their work in the Branch during the month of August. In the case of rain or inclement weather, we'll be indoors doing botanical water colors.

What do you get when you mix honey, vinegar, ginger, horseradish, and whatever else hot and spicy you find in the back of your fridge? A powerful and delicious fire cider that can help our immune system kick out colds, flus and more. In this class, we will discuss the ingredients in fire cider, different recipes for different conditions, and when and how to use them (salad dressings! mocktails!). Mo Katz-Christy (they/them) is a queer Ashkenazi Jewish herbalist born and raised in Cambridge, MA on unceded Massachusett land. They approach herbalism by connecting folks to the knowledge they already have about their body and herbs through working with kitchen medicine, ancestral traditions, and mulberries falling on the sidewalk! Mo graduated from a three-year clinical herbalism program at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism in 2022. They work one-on-one with clients to address the root imbalances that are causing dysregulation and to promote long-term healing, focusing on gut health. A webinar designed to invest in your health, wellness, and longevity. Tailored for all caregivers - such as direct care or caring for a loved one - this session will provide advice for building resilience and managing the physical and psychosocial demands of caregiving. We'll discuss your non-negotiables, defining your vision and strategy, identifying resources, and knowing your payer partners. This event will be held online. A Zoom link will be sent to registrants one hour before the session begins.

Cambridge Police Detective Lester Sullivan, Detective Matthew Grassi, Lieutenant Thomas Ahern (Ret.), and Forensic Identification Specialist Brooke Miller received the Outstanding Collaboration Award at the 2024 Law Enforcement Award Ceremony in Boston. Each year, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts hosts a ceremony to recognize outstanding public service by the agents, officers, and community leaders with whom they work alongside.

Youth ages 10-16 are welcome to join for four sessions of cooperative role-play and storytelling as we build out skills playing the table-top game DnD. The first session will include a character-building introduction followed by play continued into the next four sessions. No prior DnD experience is required, and experienced players are also welcome to join. Registration is attached to the first DnD session, 12/2.
