Installing outdoor exercise equipment similar to the fitness stations along the Charles River in Boston at Danehy Park and three other Cambridge parks would provide a health benefit for the whole community.

12-14 Laurel Street is a 2.5-story duplex in Cambridgeport between Central Square and the Charles River. The property is owned by a non-profit who is donating the 4,573 square foot site to Just A Start (JAS) to create permanently affordable ownership housing. The existing building will be demolished and replaced with a new, expanded building with a similar façade design. The project will proceed as-of-right under the AHO.

Pre-registration Required. The four-week workshop will cover a variety of topics including: an overview of the home buying process, credit & budgeting, obtaining a mortgage, legal issues, home inspections, and an introduction to Cambridge's financial assistance programs. Classes include a combination of presentations by Cambridge homebuyer cunselors, local real estate brokers, home inspectors and loan officers. Participants are expected to attend all four classes and class begins promptly at 6:00pm

Located in the Neighborhood Nine neighborhood, the site is in close proximity to the many amenities of Porter Square including restaurants, retail and the MBTA station. JAS is planning to create new affordable housing at the sites under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO).
