Join us for a demonstration of capoeira, a unique Afro-Brazilian art form combining martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics. Following the performance, children will have the opportunity to learn basic capoeira movements. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. This program will occur in the Cafeteria at King Open. Lights of Your World is an introductory astrological workshop with Laura Campagna that uses the birth chart as a portal for engagement with the cosmos. We will explore how the planets connected to the location of your Sun, Moon, and Rising help us gain insight and understanding into our own essential nature. In this fun 2-hour workshop, we will explore the seasons, elements, and planetary days of the week, color, and gems to enchant your life through astrology. Take home a tiny blossom kit and enjoy ice-cream (while supplies last). You can also register for Summer Reading, pick up a bingo board and learn more about special events happening across branches all summer long. The Department of Public Works, Community Gardens, and Office of Sustainability will join us to celebrate summer and the natural world.

In this hands-on session, you’ll dive into traditional techniques using hand-carved blocks as well as modern methods with laser engraving. You’ll sketch and carve a design on a rubber linocut block and then print it onto paper. There will also be a demo on how Laser Cutters can be used to engrave print blocks You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

The Arthropod Petting Zoo is a hands-on, show-and-tell introduction to entomology featuring real live insects and arthropods! While having fun and interacting with genuine crawling critters, kids learn about biology, taxonomy, adaptations, and scientific thinking that real scientists use in the field.
