LOCATION CHANGED - Beginning English Class (Main)
This event has been moved to the Learning Lab at the Main Library, located at 449 Broadway, due to the temporary closing of the Valente Branch. Join us for an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class! This class will be taught at a beginner level. No testing is needed. Everyone is welcome. 240 Broadway (Broadway Park)
Just A Start (JAS) is planning to create new affordable rental housing on an existing JAS-controlled site located at 243 Broadway in the Port neighborhood. Known as Broadway Park, the site is currently an existing parking lot and will be developed in conjunction with another new JAS project, 37 Brookline Street, as a scattered-site affordable rental housing project. The new housing at both Broadway Park and 37 Brookline Street will be built to Passive House standards, ensuring maximum energy efficiency.
Water Fountains in Every Park
Install new water fountain/bottle-fillers at up to 9 parks that lack drinking water fixtures. If this initiative wins, funding will be complete for water fountain installation in most of the City owned parks.
Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship
Cambridge City Manager Richard C. Rossi is seeking persons interested in serving on a Cambridge Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship. The Commission will consist of 11 volunteer members to be appointed by the City Manager.
Rafferty Park
The City of Cambridge will renovate Rafferty Park in the Cambridge Highlands neighborhood. The design and community engagement process will begin in early 2024, and construction is anticipated to begin in 2025.
Roadway Paving Enhancements Beginning Week of June 8
Beginning the week of June 8, weather permitting, the City’s contractor, Newport Construction, will be performing roadway milling (grinding) and paving operations to enhance the road conditions on several sections of street around the City.
Summer Reading: Kamishibai Storytelling with Yumi Izuyama (O'Connell)
Kamishibai (paper theater) is a traditional form of Japanese street theater and storytelling where author illustrator Yumi Izuyama uses her original artwork to tell folktales from around the world, bringing them to life for families with young children. A second generation Japanese Brazilian, Izuyama will educate and entertain us using Kamishibai with both traditional Japanese and Brazilian folktales! Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Cambridge Public Library.
Baker-Polito Administration Increases Capacity Limits for Businesses and Other Activities
The Administration announced that effective Monday, February 8th at 5:00 AM, businesses can operate at 40% capacity. This is an increase from an existing order limiting capacity to 25% for many businesses that expires Monday.
City of Cambridge Makes Free COVID-19 Testing Available 7 Days a Week through Expanded Partnership with CIC Health
The City of Cambridge announced that, beginning Monday, January 3, 2022, it will expand its free COVID-19 testing program to seven days a week during the month of January through its partnership with CIC Health. People who live or work in Cambridge can now book an appointment and be tested for free at CIC Health’s 295 Third Street location in Cambridge any day of the week.
Community Safety Department
The City of Cambridge is proposing a new Community Safety Department (CSD) that will coordinate community driven solutions to enhance safety in the community, with key services and programs targeted at our most vulnerable populations.
