The Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB) promotes public safety by educating and informing the public to prevent further victimization. SORB registers and classifies convicted sex offenders according to their risk of re-offense and the degree of danger they pose. If a sex offender resides, works, or attends school in Massachusetts they must register. Public release information about a sex offender is dependent on their classification level.

The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) regrets to announce the passing of retired police K-9 Kevin of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit. Kevin first joined the department in 2014 and was partnered with Officer Steve Lyons. Upon successfully completing a rigorous training course for explosive detection dogs, he went on to pass the ATF Odor Recognition test and achieved certification with the International Police Working Dog Association.

State health officials reported on July 9 that a mosquito sample in Cambridge had tested positive for West Nile virus. To combat this, the City offers a free rodent control assistance program for residents of buildings with four or fewer units. This initiative, a partnership between the City and a private pest control company, provides professional inspections, baiting, trapping, and follow-ups within 60 days to help control rodent populations.
