In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn what exactly a zine is and what it has to do with queer and trans liberation. Then, you will learn how to make your very own, very queer zine! To get some context, we will take a brief look at the history of queer and trans zines, as well as the present-day zine scene. Then you will learn how to fold one sheet of paper into an eight page zine that is easy to make copies of for distribution. We'll also explore and brainstorm various ways that you can get your zine to the people in the world who are interested in reading, viewing, studying, and/or adoring it (these people exist!). The City of Cambridge offers free, one-on-one help to residents looking to lower their energy bills. Through the Cambridge Energy Helpline (617-430-6230), callers get connected to a trained adviser who can explain cost-saving programs, from fuel assistance and discount utility rates to solar credits and no-cost energy assessments. Support is available to renters, homeowners, and landlords alike—regardless of building type.

Please join Kyera Singleton, Executive Director of the Royall House and Slave Quarters in Medford, MA, for a presentation about the history of slavery in the North, the origins of the Royall House and Slave Quarters and the importance of remembering hard histories. As one of the only remaining freestanding quarters where enslaved people lived and worked in the North, the Royall House and Slave Quarters bears witness to the lives of its residents, to the intertwined stories of wealth and bondage in pre-Revolutionary Massachusetts, and to the resistance and political and legal activism of enslaved and free Black people in the eighteenth century. The Cambridge Public Library is proud to offer passes to the museum during its tour season (June to October).
