The City of Cambridge and Commonwealth of Massachusetts are working to safely reopen the economy, get people back to work, and ease social restrictions while minimizing the health impacts of COVID-19. The Cambridge Police Department offers a free Child Safety Seat Installation and Inspection service to help residents properly install car seats, booster seats, and seatbelts. Trained officers inspect seats, provide guidance, and may supply free car seats to families in need, all to ensure children are traveling safely and legally under Massachusetts law.

Abuse Prevention Orders are more commonly known restraining orders (RO) and are available to protect a person who is in fear of physical abuse, experiencing physical abuse, and/or has been forced to engage in sexual relations by a current or former spouse, partner, family member, or live in roommate.

Being a Firefighter is a noble, rewarding, and exciting profession where you have the opportunity to help people when they are most vulnerable. In addition to firefighting, the job includes a wide variety of skills including emergency medical care, control of hazardous materials releases, protection of the environment, extrication of trapped people (and animals), collapse rescue, water/ice rescue, elevator rescue, public fire education, fire prevention, etc. The deadline to register for the MA Civil Service Firefighter Entrance Examination is 8-27-24.

A 30-year-old Cambridge man was safely taken into custody and then transported to a local hospital last night following a reported armed assault. After the armed assault, he barricaded himself in his home until Cambridge Police officers were able to successfully enter and place the man into custody.

The Cambridge Police Department has a Family and Social Justice section that focuses on connecting with and directing resources to our most vulnerable populations. During the cold-weather months, this work is even more critical. FSJS builds relationships and trust all year to increase the chances our unhoused will consider assistance.
