A Look at Two Federal Grants that Benefit Our Community
The City of Cambridge hosted two events this month to showcase the positive impact of federal grants such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership Grant (HOME) to our community. Community development activities build stronger and more resilient communities. CDBG funds can be directed toward affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and public services that primarily serve low and moderate income residents.
CDD Will Host Public Comment Session for Utilization of HUD Grants
The Community Development Department will hold an information and public comment session in preparation of the City’s FY2026 Annual Action Plan and FY2026-2030 Consolidated Plan. The purpose of the session is to solicit public comments on affordable housing, economic development, public service and other community development needs as they relate to low and moderate-income Cambridge residents, and HOPWA qualifying residents across Middlesex and Essex counties.
Child Safety Seat Installation and Inspection
The Cambridge Police Department has officers trained in child passenger safety. These officers will inspect and teach the proper installation of car seats to any Cambridge resident.
Baker-Polito Administration Announces Plans for Continued Reopening
The Baker-Polito Administration announced that Massachusetts will reopen some outdoor Phase 4, Step 2 industries effective May 10th and put plans in place for further reopening on May 29th and August 1st. The Administration continues to take steps to reopen the Commonwealth's economy with public health metrics continuing to trend in a positive direction. This includes drops in average daily COVID cases and hospitalizations. Massachusetts remains first in the nation for first vaccine doses and total doses administered per capita, among states with more than 5 million people. The Administration will also relax the Face Coverings Order for some outdoor settings, effective April 30th.
Cambridge NITES Grant Recipients
The City of Cambridge Community Development Department has awarded nearly $30,000 in funding to seven organizations through the Cambridge Nightlife Industry and Thriving Entertainment Spaces (NITES) grant.
Cambridge Climate Committee
The City Manager appoints a standing Climate Committee as an advisory committee to assist in the implementation of the Climate Protection Plan and Net Zero Action Plan.
City Parks Hardcourt Repairs Scheduled
The City of Cambridge Parks Department has scheduled the following maintenance and repairs to the hardcourt surfaces at Riverside Press Park, Hoyt Field and Dana Park.
