Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Yi-An Huang today announced that the City of Cambridge will host a community meeting on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, 102 Putnam Avenue to discuss the fatal officer-involved shooting of Sayed Faisal that occurred on January 4, 2023.

Get up close and personal with chickens! This program includes a chicken-themed story time and educational games about chicken behavior and anatomy. The highlight of the program is the Chicken Circle, where youth are able to touch and interact with live chickens. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. This program will happen outside. In case of rain or bad weather it will be inside the O'Neill Branch. Registration is required. When registering, please list how many children are attending. This engaging and educational program is led by master fitness trainer, author, and motivational speaker Shaun Zetlin. Designed for teens and adults of all fitness levels, this session explores how to build strength, improve balance, and move with greater confidence in everyday life. Through clear instruction and gentle, accessible demonstrations, participants will learn how simple movement patterns can enhance stability, coordination, and independence over time. Shaun also highlights the connection between physical confidence and emotional well-being, offering practical tools to help individuals feel more secure, capable, and empowered in their daily lives. All exercises are adaptable, with options performed seated or standing, making the program inclusive and approachable for a wide range of abilities. Registration is preferred not required.

CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, M.D., M.P.H., endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation for a booster shot of COVID-19 vaccines in certain populations. The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authorization and CDC’s recommendation for use are important steps forward as we work to stay ahead of the virus and keep Americans safe.

The City of Cambridge Pandemic Collaborative and its partners is offering upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics. These clinics are free. No appointment is required, and you do not need insurance, an ID, or a social security number to get the vaccine. Getting a vaccine will NOT affect a public charge determination or immigration status.

First step in the hiring process for CPD and many other agencies is to take the Massachusetts Civil Service Police Exam. Next exam is scheduled for March with a registration deadline of February 2nd.

Join the Cambridge Public Library in celebrating Pride Month by welcoming Kristen Arnett, author of Mostly Dead Things, With Teeth, and—published just this past March—STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE. After a reading from her work, Arnett will be joined in conversation by Jill McDonough, author of five books of poetry including American Treasure and Here All Night. Called "a perversely funny novel about family, ambition, and desire" (Shelf Awareness), STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE follows a professional clown, Cherry Hendricks, as she tries to stay true to her needs as a person as well as an artist. This is a hybrid event and registration is required. This event is cosponsored by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.
