Twenty-five years of major investment in sewer and stormwater infrastructure and maintenance has significantly improved the quality of water discharged to the Charles River, the Little River, the Alewife Brook, the Mystic River, and the Boston Harbor.

Every month we will read and discuss a short story as a group. Copies of the story will be provided, and no preparation is need. Please drop in! Join the Cambridge Public Library in welcoming Elaine Castillo, author of How to Read Now and America Is Not the Heart, in celebrating the release of her newest novel, Moderation, published in August 2025. The recipient of starred reviews from Publisher's Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist—which called Moderation "a slyly brilliant narrative ... cleverly interrogating interactions, communication, and relationships"—the novel follows Girlie Delmundo, a social media content moderator falling in love with her boss while her career veers into an increasingly virtual realm, raising pertinent questions about the future of love. After reading from Moderation, Elaine with sit in conversation with writer and editor Meagan Masterman for a wide-ranging conversation followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. This is a hybrid event and registration is required.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, leaders from the City of Cambridge and the Commonwealth gathered with nonprofit Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) to mark the beginning of renovations at the former Sacred Heart church rectory and school in East Cambridge. By the end of 2027, POAH plans to complete construction on the property, which will create 46 new permanently affordable apartment homes.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Cambridge has prioritized supporting our unhoused community. Over the past year, we have invested over $11 million in additional funding above the annual $4.5 million to further support our most vulnerable residents.

When Alice's beloved and eccentric Aunt Polly passes away, her will reveals she has left her world-famous pie crust recipe to her fat grumpy cat, Lardo. And Lardo has been left to Alice! Everyone in town wants to be the next pie contest champion, and it's up to Alice and her friends to solve the mystery of the recipe and discover the not-so-secret recipe for happiness. Copies of this month's book are available at the Children's Desk. Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Join us for a guided 30-minute Tactile Talk featuring the 102 beloved mosaics recently reinstalled after extensive conservation at Millers River Apartments. These murals were originally created in 1979 by Lilli Ann Rosenberg with help from residents and children. We will meet at the entrance to Millers River Apartments at 15 Lambert St. This event is part of our Time Out for Public Art series in collaboration with Cambridge Arts. In September, these will be Tactile Talks, shorter visits perfect for all ages and abilities. Registration is required.

Art on a nice Summer night? Nothing sounds better than that! Come to the Library and enjoy an art filled evening learning the techniques of watercolor painting. In partnership with artist Brooke Lambert, a professional printmaker and painter, she will take you through this guided art class. The library will provide all materials. Please try your best to arrive on time or notify us if any lateness. There will be a 10 minute grace period to keep your spot held before going to waitlisted registrants.
