The climate is changing, and we're all here on the planet together. Join us for a monthly community gathering and discussion of a variety of books about climate change. We will share thoughts, resources, and occasionally host special guests in a welcoming small-group environment. Our July book is The Weight of Nature: how a changing climate changes our brains by Clayton Page Aldern. Copies are available to pick up at the Q&A desk at the Main Library. This is a hybrid event. Join us for a collaborative experience where families build and battle robots together. This event is recommended for children ages 7 and up and their families. This program can accommodate 16 families. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly. Unclaimed seats will be offered to someone waiting. We appreciate your patience and understanding. In advance of Juneteenth – a day that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, the Mayor’s Office, Cambridge Public Library, Arts Council, Cambridge Juneteenth Committee, and a number of community organizations have come together to collaborate on a range of events, including a parade and music celebration!

To assist families throughout the Commonwealth, the state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services launched a Nursing Home Family Resource Line on April 8. Through this dedicated telephone line, staff are connecting families of residents in nursing homes or rest homes with the information and resources they need.

The public patios program aims to transform bustling areas of Cambridge into vibrant social hubs by introducing simple interventions like tables and chairs, often accompanied by interactive installations. These spaces encourage chance encounters and playful pauses, fostering sociable atmospheres that enhance community connection and enrich urban life.

This issue of Cambridge Life celebrates the transformation happening across our City and neighborhoods. Infrastructure projects—large and small—are reshaping how we move, learn, live, and work. They represent years of thoughtful planning, robust community engagement, and a collective commitment to equity and resilience.

Over the course of the last year plus, I have worked hard to balance the many voices in our diverse community, find consensus within the City Council and follow their direction, and bring forward the professional experience and expertise of City department leaders and staff.
