Kids in 6th, 7th and 8th grade can come to the Library to make their own bicycle spoke cards! Snacks provided. No registration necessary.

It can be a complex problem that requires comprehensive solutions and participation from multiple stakeholders. The City of Cambridge recognizes the importance of collaboration and the commitment required to best support this critical work, which often involves our youth and young adults.

Immerse yourself in the magic and medicine of mint! Join herbalist Mo Katz-Christy at the O'Connell Branch Library for an hour and half of learning all about this powerful plant. We will connect with mint through smell, taste, drawing, science, and storytelling. Move beyond "mint for a stomachache" and learn all about the chemistry of why and how mint is able to have such a profound effect on our body. This class is for anyone, beginner or experienced, who wants to build a closer relationship with mint! Registration is required.

Youth ages 10-16 are welcome to join for four sessions of cooperative role-play and storytelling as we build out skills playing the table-top game DnD. The first session will include a character-building introduction followed by play continued into the next four sessions. No prior DnD experience is required, and experienced players are also welcome to join. Registration is attached to the first DnD session, 12/2. Join Maria Lawton, Cookbook Author, TV host/Executive Producer, Speaker, Storyteller & Culinary Travel Guide for a presentation on Portuguese Cooking. Maria is the creator and host of the multi-award-winning PBS series Maria’s Portuguese Table, and the author of two beloved cookbooks: Azorean Cooking: From My Family Table to Yours and At My Portuguese Table, winner of the Bronze IPPY Award. Born in São Miguel Azores, Portugal and raised in the U.S., Maria has dedicated her career to preserving and sharing the rich culinary and cultural traditions of Portugal. With her signature warmth and heartfelt storytelling, she brings recipes to life—not just as food, but as vessels of memory, love, and heritage. She is now working on her next book “Baking with Love”, her first children’s cookbook, Maria returns to the kitchen of her childhood, recreating the sweet recipes she made side-by-side with her grandmother. Anyone can make a delicious herbal tea blend! In this class, presented by herbalist Mo Katz-Christy, we will discuss a handful of common herbs for tea: their uses, flavors, energies, and what they add to a blend. We will smell each of the herbs and taste some as well, learning how the flavors blend and how they complement each other. Part information and science, part sensory exploration, this class will be as playful as it is educational! Bring your own jar to take your tea blend home. Registration is required and will open May 15.
