In this class you will be introduced to painting with watercolor, including techniques in color mixing, observational painting, and composition. At your own pace you will learn how to paint still life using watercolor in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This class will cover wet on wet and wet on dry techniques, masking, pressing, shading and light techniques, ink washes, and pattern making. You will come away from this class with many beautiful watercolor paintings of your own and a greater understanding and appreciation for the medium of watercolor. This class is suitable for beginners and can be adjusted for all levels of experience. This class is for adults. This class is taught by Brooke Lambert. Brooke is a professional printmaker and painter. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and shows her work widely in New England, New York, and beyond. Brooke works in Studio 291 at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts in Lowell, MA. She is currently represented by The Society of American Graphic Artists and Equity Gallery in New York, NY and Galaray House, contemporary art gallery in Lexington, MA. She has thirteen years of teaching experience and currently teaches adult art workshops and holds artist demos at several locations in New England.

Kids in 6th, 7th and 8th grade can come to the Library to make their own bicycle spoke cards! Snacks provided. No registration necessary.

Immerse yourself in the magic and medicine of mint! Join herbalist Mo Katz-Christy at the O'Connell Branch Library for an hour and half of learning all about this powerful plant. We will connect with mint through smell, taste, drawing, science, and storytelling. Move beyond "mint for a stomachache" and learn all about the chemistry of why and how mint is able to have such a profound effect on our body. This class is for anyone, beginner or experienced, who wants to build a closer relationship with mint! Registration is required.

The first session will include a character-building introduction followed by play continued into the next four sessions. Join Maria Lawton, Cookbook Author, TV host/Executive Producer, Speaker, Storyteller & Culinary Travel Guide for a presentation on Portuguese Cooking. Maria is the creator and host of the multi-award-winning PBS series Maria’s Portuguese Table, and the author of two beloved cookbooks: Azorean Cooking: From My Family Table to Yours and At My Portuguese Table, winner of the Bronze IPPY Award. Born in São Miguel Azores, Portugal and raised in the U.S., Maria has dedicated her career to preserving and sharing the rich culinary and cultural traditions of Portugal. With her signature warmth and heartfelt storytelling, she brings recipes to life—not just as food, but as vessels of memory, love, and heritage. She is now working on her next book “Baking with Love”, her first children’s cookbook, Maria returns to the kitchen of her childhood, recreating the sweet recipes she made side-by-side with her grandmother.
