The "Remembering Together" support group is for patrons who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Facilitated by the library social worker, this online group offers a safe and confidential online space for peers to come together, share common experiences and heal in community. If you are interested in participating, or simply learning more about this offering, please email Brett Dixon, the library social worker, at bdixon@cambridgema.gov.

This summer, My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Cambridge Task Force, in partnership with the City of Cambridge, launched a new Summer Empowerment Program for Cambridge youth. This program, which supported 50 young people in an interactive summer experience, was funded through $63,000 in City funds, $25,000 donated by Cambridge Savings Bank, and $25,000 donated by DivcoWest.

Join local artist Brooke Lambert for an introduction to painting with watercolor. Learn at your own pace to paint still life in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This class will introduce techniques in color mixing, observational painting and composition. You will come away from this class with beautiful watercolor paintings and a greater understanding and appreciation for the medium of watercolor. This class is for adults with all levels of experiences and will cover wet on wet and wet on dry techniques, masking, pressing, shading and light techniques, ink washes and pattern making. Commissioner Christine Elow and members of her leadership team visited student officers at the 6th Cambridge-Northeastern Police Academy.

In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop. If you have not completed the training, you will be removed from the class—even if you plan to take it later.
