The Baker-Polito Administration announced a new preregistration signup tool will be available for the state’s 7 mass vaccination sites starting Friday, March 12. The new system will make it easier to request and book an appointment at a mass vaccination site at a nearby location when they are available.

Applications can be submitted online or by phone. Messages may be left in English or in separate voicemail boxes in Amharic, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish and a City staff person will return calls to applicants to assist in completing the application by phone.

Health Insurance Open enrollment for active City employees and non-Medicare eligible retirees will be held this year from February 10-28, 2025. Please review your current health insurance elections and submit any changes you would like to make via the online portal no later than Friday, February 28, 2025.

March Selection: What Can I Bring? by Casey Elsass. Join friends and neighbors for a potluck! Try a recipe and bring your results or thoughts to share and discuss with other cooks. All experience levels welcome. No need to bring a dish to join. Books will be available for pick up at the Boudreau and Collins Branches during library hours. Cambridge Arts and Community Development Department are offering free workshops to support emerging artists through their professional development. The topics will include financial literacy, artistic identity, grant writing, marketing, advocacy, and wellness. Workshops will be offered online during the months of October, November, and December. We are offering this opportunity to practitioners in every form of creative expression, however, there is limited availability. We encourage local artists and practitioners from historically disempowered and oppressed communities (women, people of color, veterans, individuals who are disabled, and members of the LGBTQ+ community) to register.

In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, December 24-25, and Thursday, January 1. We also want residents to be aware that the Cambridge Police Department expects reports of package thefts to increase this time of year, particularly with more residents doing their shopping online.

The City of Cambridge and Community Development Department today announced the addition of community solar to its long-standing Sunny Cambridge program. Now all Cambridge residents, regardless of whether they rent or own, can leverage online tools and resources from Sunny Cambridge to shop and compare community solar projects or rooftop solar installations.

The 2023 Spring Ride on May 20 will take you past sites of internet and neural network history while utilizing portions of the bicycle network as a demonstration of what the full network will bring. Participants will begin gathering outside the Cambridge Public Library Main Branch at 9:00 a.m. and depart promptly at 9:30 a.m.

“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” is in order of importance. It is better to reduce than reuse; better to reuse than recycle. Reducing and reusing prevent the environmental impact of making new items. All disposal has financial costs to the city. Recycling and composting cost the City less than trash. Still, preventing waste in the first place is best for Cambridge and the environment. It is one of the key recommendations in the Cambridge Zero Waste Master Plan.
