Celebrate reading with fellow new readers at the Valente Branch Library! We will explore a book from the Beginning Reader collection, spend time reading together, and do an activity! Copies of the book will be provided via the library; participants may check out a copy to take home after the program. This is open to students in kindergarten through second grade who are practicing reading independently; their grown-ups are welcome to join us. Registration is required. The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) strongly recommends that residents get a flu vaccine this season. While a flu vaccine is always good preventative health care, it is especially important this year given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the flu vaccine, CPHD will also be offering free Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines and boosters at the clinics. We encourage people who are unvaccinated, especially young people (12 and older), to use this opportunity to get both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines.

Homeowners Rehab, Inc. (HRI) has completed the purchase of 729-755 Concord Avenue, several contiguous parcels that together form a 48,463 square foot site along Concord Avenue in the Cambridge Highlands neighborhood. The acquisition was supported with funding from the Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust. The site is located a block from HRI’s existing 98-unit Finch Cambridge affordable development at 675 Concord Avenue, completed in 2020, and is in close proximity to all the amenities of the Alewife shopping area and the Alewife T station.It is across the street from the Fresh Pond Reservation with ample open space and walking paths. The site is expected to be redeveloped as affordable housing under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay.

The City of Cambridge is offering four new affordable condominiums for sale to income-eligible first-time homebuyers through a lottery process. These affordable condos are located at The Pathmark, 97 Elmwood Street in North Cambridge near Davis Square.

Join us for a lively discussion of a great book in person at the Main Library! Snacks will be provided. For ages 7-9 and a parent or caregiver. This month's book is Charlie and Frog by Karen Kane. Charlie’s boring summer gets a lot more interesting when he sees a mysterious woman who gives him a desperate message (in American Sign Language) and then disappears. Luckily, local girl detective Francine (Frog) has been looking for her next case, and ASL is her first language. They’ll have to work together to decipher clues and find ways to communicate and solve the mystery before it’s too late! Copies of this month's book are available at the Children's Desk. Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Registration is required — only one registration is needed per family. This CPR class will cover life-saving skills for infants, children and adults. We will use multi-media and hands-on practice to be sure students acquire skills and confidence to assist in a life-saving medical situation. This class will also cover training and the use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for all ages, along with life-saving skills in choking situations. Students will receive their certificate upon completion of class. Please note that the City is not responsible for the content or training equipment. Space is limited (20 adults), registration is required. Note for CONFIRMED registrants: Your spot is held until the program start time. Once the program begins, we will fill in open spots from a day-of waiting list until the program reaches capacity.
