On February 4, 2021, the Governor of Massachusetts announced that as of Monday, February 8, 2021, the capacity limits for certain businesses will increase from the current 25% to 40%.  After careful consideration, the City of Cambridge will follow the increase but will continue to monitor and amend if necessary in the interest of the public’s safety. The City of Cambridge previously announced that it will be returning to Phase III, Step 1 effective on Monday, February 8 at 12:00 a.m.

New measures include deferred student loan payments, updated remote learning guidance and enacting legislation to protect residents from evictions and foreclosures

Commissioner Christine Elow and the Cambridge Police Department want to invite the community to two events scheduled next week: Coffee with a Cop Day on October 5 and Creating Connections, a community fair with Cambridge’s faith-based organizations on October 8.

The City of Cambridge wants to know how Cambridge residents feel about the COVID-19 vaccine and what questions or concerns you may have to help us communicate important information more clearly to you and your community. Your answers will help the City plan how to share information with residents to help encourage everyone to get vaccinated.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration amended the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, authorizing the use of a single booster dose for administration to individuals 5 through 11 years of age at least five months after completion of a primary series with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine.

This year, National Public Health Week is April 3-9. The observance serves to promote awareness and celebrate the work of public health. But what exactly is public health work? You may be aware of public health’s role with COVID-19, but did you know that the work is much more extensive? Public health is about protecting the health of an entire population. For the Cambridge Public Health Department, that means all people who live, learn, work, play, or spend time in Cambridge. The Baker-Polito Administration set a goal of vaccinating approximately four million people in the Commonwealth. According to the CDC’s vaccine data, 3.9 million people in Massachusetts have been fully or partially vaccinated as of today. Another 180,000 people are scheduled to get their first dose in the next 7 days.

The ordinance requires new construction and major renovation projects to be fossil fuel-free. This applies to residential and non-residential building projects.
