This August, the City of Cambridge is proud to celebrate National Black Business Month by hosting a variety of events aimed at supporting and promoting Black business owners.

The Inspectional Services Department (ISD) is responsible for the enforcement all laws and related City ordinances that pertain to the Massachusetts State Building Code and certain articles of the State Sanitary Code. ISD also enforces the Zoning Ordinance.

Learn to fix your broken household items, such as electronics, appliances, clothing, and toys etc. at the Fixit Clinic. Volunteer Fixit coaches will review, take apart, and assist in repair attempts. Gain the confidence and knowledge to make repairs and teach others to do the same. This event takes place in The Hive, located on L1 of the Main Library. Open to all ages, registration is required. The primary function of Police Review & Advisory Board (PRAB) is to investigate and make findings regarding complaints brought by individuals against the Cambridge Police Department or police officers, and it also reviews Cambridge Police Department policies, practices and procedures.

Join members of the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School for a brief presentation outlining the importance of Health Care Proxies followed by the opportunity to complete and execute your own. Registration is requested, but not required. The Health Care Proxy is a simple document, legally valid in Massachusetts, which allows you to name someone (an "agent") to make health care decisions on your behalf if you are unable to make or communicate those decisions.

Join us for a game of chess at the O'Neill Branch! Players of all skill levels and all ages are welcome to participate. Chess sets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. This is a space for individuals to play and test their skills against other members of the community. This is not an instructional class.
