Sustaining Community: A Climate Change Book Group (Main)
The climate is changing, and we're all here on the planet together. Join us for a monthly community gathering and discussion of a variety of books about climate change. We will share thoughts, resources, and occasionally host special guests in a welcoming small-group environment. For our December meeting, we will discuss This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate by Naomi Klein. Copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. To achieve the goals of its Net Zero Action Plan and to encourage buildings subject to BEUDO to take steps to significantly reduce their energy use, the City conducted research, qualitative analysis, and stakeholder engagement to inform the development of a voluntary, comprehensive retrofit program.
Summer Reading: Community Celebration and Community Build (O'Neill)
The original program scheduled for this day with Little Uprisings will be postponed. Please stay tuned for a new date. The following description is for the program that will be on Saturday: Join friends at the O'Neill Branch to build, build, BUILD your idea of a neighborhood and a community! Let your imagination run wild with LEGOs, Magna-Tiles and other building toys. We will also have books about neighborhoods and a collaborative art project about our community. For children ages 5 and up. Children under age 7 must be accompanied by a caregiver. LEGO pieces are choking hazards for young children.
Middle Grade Mystery Book Group (O'Connell/Virtual)
Our monthly Middle Grade Mystery book group is for kids aged 10-14. Check out a copy of the book beforehand, or download it from the Libby app. Our April book is Howliday Inn by James Howe. This book group will meet virtually and in person at the O'Connell Branch. Please register below if you would like to attend virtually. Tween Craft: Junk Journals (Main)
Get back to school with these DIY journals! Learn how to make a journal from scratch and decorate it with cut outs, pictures, and 3D pieces to make it pop. Junk journals are an interactive and creative project that helps you keep track of all your favorite events and memories. You'll see examples of different techniques and get to make your own! Family Mario Kart Tournament (Valente)
Race against friends and family on the library's gaming consoles to emerge victorious in this Mario Kart competition! The library will provide all materials. This program is recommended for children ages 5+ and their guardians.
CPL Adult Summer Camp: Friendship Bracelets (Valente)
Join us for one, two, or all CPL Adult Summer Camp activities to meet new people and have nostalgic fun outside in Cambridge! We will be making friendship bracelets in the Reading Garden next to the Valente Branch. In case of rain/high heat, this event will be held at the Valente Branch Library Registration Required.
CPL Nature Club: Seed Swap (O'Neill)
Bring the extra garden seeds you don't think you will plant this year! See what your neighbors have before you purchase more! We will have envelopes and pens to help keep them straight. If you don't have seeds, come anyway, as we will have extras. This event is co-hosted by Cambridge City Growers, a group of volunteers across Cambridge working to start up gardens in neighborhoods to increase access to healthy, organic, and locally grown food.
