The Cambridge Public Art Commission helps guide the implementation of the Public Art Ordinance and the Art Gifts and Donation Policy, and advises on the overall direction of the City of Cambridge’s Public Art Program. The Commission brings its collective expertise to bear on discussions regarding the various program areas of the public art program, such as acquisition and deaccession, project planning, maintenance, conservation, educational programming, and the exhibitions in Gallery 344. The Commission reviews every percent-for-art project from artists’ proposals to final design. PAC approval is required before a project can go into fabrication.

City Manager Yi-An Huang is seeking volunteers to serve on a new Working Group to help guide the Mass Ave Partial Construction Project on Mass Ave, from Waterhouse Street to Alewife Brook Parkway. The Working Group is anticipated to be made up of 15-20 members, representing a diverse set of interests along the Mass Ave corridor to ensure that each perspective is heard and that there is adequate representation reporting back to the larger community. The Working Group will include residents, business owners, institutional representatives, and a variety of people that use the corridor to live, work, walk, bike or take the bus.

Join Conservation Coordinator Alison Cariens for a closer look at pigments in the famed Forbes Pigment Collection at the Harvard Art Museums. This event will take place at the Harvard Art Museums. Registration is required but does not guarantee entry. By registering here, you are joining the pool of interested patrons. From this pool, eight names will be drawn randomly. All registrants, whether selected to attend or not, will be notified of their status one week in advance. Approved participants will be provided with location details prior to the tour.

At the Community Learning Center, students can improve their English or pursue a High School Equivalency Diploma. The CLC has 18 laptops and 12 ThinkPads for 630 adult learners. This project would fund 20 additional laptops, keyboards, mice and storage cart for the students.

Join clinical herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a walk around the Alewife Reservation to learn about the medicine, botany and magic of medicinal herbs. We will discuss medicinal plants in Cambridge and their specific indications and properties. Bring a notebook as we delight in the bounty of our neighborhood! Registration is required. It is a 6 minute walk from Alewife MBTA station, accessible by bus or by the Red Line. There is no parking available on-site. Adding wireless surround sound speakers to the youth centers benefits young people doing homework, playing basketball and other activities. Bringing music to the youth centers will bring more youth to these centers.
