The City of Cambridge announced that all City-sponsored community events, events permitted for the use of City parks, or other City-sponsored public gatherings will be cancelled through October 26, 2020, or postponed to a later date. All prior approvals for events or gatherings are revoked. The City Manager’s Office is collaborating with the City’s COVID-19 Expert Advisory Panel, the Commissioner of Public Health, and the Cambridge Public Health Department to evaluate and determine what Halloween activities will be allowed in the City. Further guidance on Halloween activities in the City to be announced the week of October 12.

A site-based assessment team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive on Monday, August 18th through Thursday, August 21st to examine all aspects of the Cambridge Police Department policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification by the team that the Cambridge Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. The City of Cambridge’s Community Safety Department, whose mission is to provide residents with an alternative police response that prioritizes issues of mental and behavioral health in some of the city’s most vulnerable communities, has announced the hiring of an Assistant Director of Clinical Services, and new Community Assistance Response and Engagement (CARE) team.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout the week due to several community events. These include the Juneteenth Parade and Celebration, Saint Anthony Feast, Cambridge Arts River Festival, Hoops ‘N’ Health (rescheduled from last week), Cambridge Refugee Food Festival, and the Boston 10K.

On Thursday, October 21, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) approved the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 booster vaccines for eligible groups. The CDC had previously recommended boosters for eligible individuals who received the Pfizer vaccine series. In addition, individuals will now be able to choose which type of booster shot to get regardless of which vaccine series they have already received.

Expect traffic impacts in Cambridge on Thursday, June 6, due to the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School graduation ceremony and community events in Harvard Square.
