We will install pavement markings for a new separated bike lane, bus lanes, and turn-only lanes on Mt. Auburn Street between Brattle Street and Belmont Street. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of April 22.

The City of Cambridge today announced the April schedule for its 7 days per week testing program, including walk-in and appointment-based testing options. Appointment-only testing, provided through a partnership with CIC Health, will continue be available 7 days per week at CIC Health’s 295 Third Street location to people who live or work in Cambridge.

People and pets should avoid contact with Alewife Brook and parts of the Mystic River due to the release of stormwater mixed with sewage into the river. The release of mixed stormwater and sewage—known as a “combined sewer overflow (CSO)”—is needed to prevent contaminated water from backing up into homes, businesses, and city streets.

The City of Cambridge plans to install bus-only lanes and separated bike lanes on Massachusetts Avenue between Douglass Street to Memorial Drive. We were delayed last Fall and have new information to share.

The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) recently identified 32 cases likely connected to a children’s summer program in Cambridge. Of these cases, 20 were among students attending the program (all under age12); 3 were among staff and interns; and 9 were among household contacts of staff and students. Children and staff in the summer program were following proper mitigation measures, including wearing masks and washing their hands frequently. Several cases associated with the cluster were sequenced and identified as Delta variant cases.

A broad coalition of local governments and nonprofit organizations is taking legal action to stop the Trump-Vance administration from creating unlawful and unreasonable restrictions that seek to shift funding away from proven solutions to homelessness, through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s Continuum of Care (CoC) Program, threatening to push hundreds of thousands of people onto the street as cold winter months arrive.

The Cambridge Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit works all year to service the community by enforcing the rules of the road. Our goal is to reduce the number and severity of crashes in the city. Many of the current enforcement programs are a direct response to community complaints regarding speeding and other violations. The Department also spends time educating the public when there are any infrastructure changes, like new bike lanes or traffic patterns. We are committed to fostering greater traffic safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

A section of Garden Street between Huron Avenue and Concord Avenue will become a one-way for people driving as part of the Garden Street Safety Improvement Project.
