Join us for a hands-on workshop at the Cambridge Public Library to explore what's available and learn how to analyze and visualize this data — including how to use AI tools for data exploration. Dr. Zuri Sullivan and Dr. Bruce Walker of the Ragon Institute will provide information geared to the general public as to where the virus that causes COVID-19 came from, how it causes disease, how the body fights back, how vaccines work, the safety and efficacy of those COVID-19 vaccines currently being rolled out, and the prospects for these vaccines to contain the pandemic now that mutant viruses are arising.

Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Angela Buchdahl—Senior Rabbi of Central Synagogue in New York City and the first Asian American to be ordained as a rabbi—for a discussion of her memoir Heart of a Stranger: An Unlikely Rabbi's Story of Faith, Identity, and Belonging. She will be joined in conversation by Allegra Goodman—local author of the bestselling novels Isola and The Chalk Artist. Registration is required.

On Thursday, October 22, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health recategorized the City of Cambridge as a moderate risk “yellow” community. This designation is given to communities where the average daily case rate over the last 14 days is 4-8 cases per 100,000 population.

The Massachusetts Vaccine Scheduling Resource Line at 2-1-1 is now available in English and Spanish and will have translators available to support residents in approximately 100 additional languages. Individuals ages 75 and older will be able to speak to a representative live on the phone to assist them with an appointment through the state’s online system.

A Cambridge Police Officer shot an adult male, who preliminary information suggests, was in possession of a machete. The male was immediately rendered medical aid by officers until EMS arrived on-scene. He was then transported to a local hospital, where died from his injuries.
