A Cambridge man in his 40s, who had reportedly pulled a weapon on his health care worker and then barricaded himself inside his large, multi-unit Massachusetts Avenue residential building apartment, was safely taken into custody by officers and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation earlier this afternoon.

Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Once allies in Sudan’s transitional government, tensions over the country’s political future and plans to integrate the RSF into the regular military led to open fighting in 2023. More than three years later, the war continues with devastating consequences for civilians, including widespread death, displacement, and food insecurity, creating a severe humanitarian crisis. Join Professor Mai Hassan, Associate Professor of Political Science at MIT and Faculty Director of the MIT-Africa Program, for a conversation about the origins and ongoing consequences of the war, its humanitarian impact, and the challenges facing Sudan’s future. Winter Indoor Recreation Open Hours ($30,000)

Effective Oct. 1, 2016, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts prohibits discrimination based on gender identity in places of Public Accommodation. A place of public accommodation as defined in M.G.L.c. 272 92A includes any place open to and serving the public. This training details how businesses can comply with the state’s gender identity non-discrimination law in places of public accommodation. In addition, the training covers best practices for maintaining inclusive environments regardless of one’s gender identity.
