The Cambridge Summer Food Service Program aims to increase food security in Cambridge by providing free and nutritionally balanced lunches to anyone 18 years of age and under. This Summer, the Department of Human Service Programs, in partnership with Sidekim Foods of Lynn, Massachusetts will provide a variety of healthy and tasty meals for young people in Cambridge. Staff members from the Cambridge Recreation Division will be serving the meals at a number of locations.

Lunches will be served from 11:30am to 12:30pm Monday through Friday at the following parks in Cambridge: Danehy, Hoyt Field, Sennott, Green-Rose Heritage, Gold Star Mothers, Hurley Street Playground, Central Square Library and the Fresh Pond Apartments playground.

We are excited to announce that starting new this year, also in partnership with the Cambridge Recreation Division, we will be piloting a Summer Dinner Program. We will be providing a cold dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following Summer Basketball League locations: Davonte Neal (Sennott Park), Sharif Moustafa (Glacken Field) and Fast Break and Crunch Time (Hoyt Field) leagues.

Dinners will also be provided at all Screen on the Green events from 6:45 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. July 3rd at Donnelly Field, July 10th at Hoyt Field, July 17th at Sennott Park, July 24th at Rindge Field, July 31st at Greene Rose Heritage Park, and August 7th at Glacken Field.

The Cambridge Summer Food Service Program incorporated First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Initiative into the program in 2011. As a result, Monday through Friday between 10:30am and 11:30am, activities that promote exercise and movement will be offered. These exciting activities will include Zumba and African Drumming, and each week a major field day event will be held at one of the parks.

The Cambridge Summer Food Service Program is also continuing its collaboration with the Agenda for Children’s Literacy Initiative to provide the Book Bike program. The Book Bike program will be providing attendees with free books and activities at 11:30am at the following parks and days: Green-Rose Heritage Park on Mondays, Fresh Pond Apartments Playground on Tuesdays, Hoyt Field on Wednesdays, Danehy Park on Thursdays, and Gold Star Mother’s Park on Fridays.

Please join us at our parks throughout the summer and “Let’s Move, Let’s Eat, and Let’s Read”.
