Task Force to Examine the Future of Public Safety in Cambridge

City Manager's Office

City Manager Louis A. DePasquale appointed a Task Force to examine the future of public safety in Cambridge. “The City Manager’s Task Force to Examine the Future of Public Safety in Cambridge” is co-chaired by Councilors E. Denise Simmons and Marc C. McGovern and consists of 14 members who live and/or work in the City. The group seeks to examine ways to reform community safety in Cambridge by mitigating police response to select calls for service, while enhancing community cohesion to include restorative processes.

The meetings are not open to the public and therefore there are no notices posted publicly as to when Taskforce meetings will occur or what its agendas will include. The Taskforce does not take votes on matters or take minutes at its meetings. The Taskforce will report back to the City Manager and submit recommendations for the City Manager to consider, and the City Manager may then communicate such to the City Council.

In response to interest in the work of The City Manager’s Task Force to Examine the Future of Public Safety in Cambridge, the City has created a public webpage where we’ve placed agendas and meeting notes for taskforce meetingsBelow are agendas and meeting notes for task force meetings. It will be updated regularly.

This page also includes the original submission from the City Manager to the City Council as well as a related Council Order.
