Broadway and Main Street Safety Improvement Projects: What to Expect in the Next Two Weeks

The Department of Transportation is providing a two-week preview of upcoming work for the Broadway and Main Street Safety Improvement Projects. Residents and visitors should expect parking changes and continued sign and meter work. Here's what's to come during the weeks of June 30 and July 7:

Key Dates: Broadway - Portland Street to Columbia Street

  • Thursday, June 26 and Friday June 27: Parking changes expected to begin. This includes the removal of parking to accommodate project installation.
  • Monday, June 30: Pavement marking installation, including bike lane markings, to begin.

Overnight parking restrictions will begin Monday night (June 30) for both sides of Broadway. Posted signs will display the hours and days when parking is restricted at least 48 hours in advance.

Two Week Look Ahead: Broadway - Portland Street to Columbia Street

Week of June 30 (Daytime Hours):
  • Continued sign and meter work. Parking regulations will be changing. Keep an eye out for posted signs, both temporary and permanent.
Week of June 30 (Overnight Hours):
  • Pavement marking installation will begin. This includes bike lane and other lane lines. This schedule is subject to change due to weather.
  • There will be no overnight parking on either side of Broadway beginning June 30th. Paper signs will indicate both permanent and temporary parking restrictions.
Week of July 7 (Overnight Hours):
  • Temporary overnight parking restrictions will continue as needed.
  • Pavement marking installation will continue, depending on weather.
Future Work:
  • Additional overnight work, if required, will require additional overnight parking restrictions.
  • Flex-Post installation will be scheduled at a future date, also requiring temporary parking restrictions.

Two-Week Lookahead: Main Street - Sidney Street to Portland Street

Week of June 30:
  • No work will take place this week. This will allow the asphalt to cool and settle before pavement markings are applied to the surface.
Week of July 7 (Overnight Hours): 
  • Project installation tentatively set to begin
  • Pavement marking installation will begin. This includes bike lane and other lane lines. This schedule is subject to change due to weather and paving schedule.

Future Work:
  • Pavement markings to continue requiring additional overnight parking restrictions.

 

What to Expect: Main Street - Albany to Technology Square
Upcoming Work:
  • We are currently working with our contractor to schedule flex-post installations. The date of this work is unknown. Sign up for Main Street email updates to find out when the work is scheduled.
