Cambridge to Host November 18 Afternoon Drop-In at Senior Center on 2027 Parking Permit Changes

Financial Hardship Waivers Available to Residents of All Ages for 2027 Parking Permit Fees

The Cambridge Department of Transportation (CDOT) will host an afternoon drop-in information session on Wednesday, November 18, at the Cambridge Senior Center to help residents understand upcoming changes to the 2027 Resident Parking Permit program, including a new financial hardship fee waiver available to residents of all ages.

Beginning with the 2027 permit season, the standard annual Resident Parking Permit fee will increase from $25 to $75, and the automatic fee waiver for residents ages 65 and older will end.

In 2027, residents of all ages can request a fee waiver if paying the $75 fee would be a financial hardship. To request the waiver, simply check a box on the regular permit application. No separate application is required.

Those with a valid disability plate or placard will continue to receive their Resident Parking Permit at no cost.

Join Us for an Information Session on November 18

CDOT staff will be available to answer questions about the 2027 permit changes, explain the financial hardship waiver, and provide guidance on the upcoming renewal process.

  • Wednesday, November 18, 2026
  • Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Location: Cambridge Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Avenue

The session is open to all Cambridge residents, regardless of age. No appointment is necessary.

What Else Is Changing in 2027?

In addition to the new fee structure and financial hardship waiver, residents should be aware of two other changes:

  • Limit of two Resident Parking Permits per person: Residents may receive a maximum of two Resident Parking Permits per resident (previously four).
  • Free Visitor Parking Permit pilot: Eligible households will be able to receive one Visitor Parking Permit at no cost during the 2027 permit season.

When Can I Renew My Permit?

  • December 1, 2026: Online renewals open for residents who currently have a 2026 Resident Parking Permit.
  • January 4, 2027: New permit applications and in-person renewals begin. Residents can visit Parking Services at the City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway, for assistance.
  • March 31, 2027: Last day to renew a 2026 permit. Beginning April 1, only 2027 permits will be valid.
