Broadway and Main Street Safety Improvement Projects: What to Expect in the Next Two Weeks

The Department of Transportation is providing a two-week preview of upcoming work for the Broadway and Main Street Safety Improvement Projects. Residents and visitors should expect parking changes and bus stop changes. Here's what's to come during the weeks of June 16 and June 23:

Broadway - Portland Street to Columbia Street


Week of June 16 (Daytime Hours):

This work includes:

  • Converting two resident parking spaces to metered parking in front of the businesses near Clark Street.
  • Converting two meters to a loading zone at Broadway and Moore Street.
  • Converting a loading zone to metered parking across from Davis Street.
  • Adding accessible/disability parking near Fletcher-Maynard Academy.
Week of June 23 (Daytime Hours):
  • We will move the IB bus stop at Windsor Street to its new location across the street.
  • The new stop location will be posted two weeks in advance of the change.
  • MBTA will add an alert of the change to its website.
Future Overnight Work:

  • Pavement markings will be installed either the week of June 23 or June 30, depending on weather and crew availability.

Main Street - Sidney Street to Portland Street


Week of June 16 (Daytime Hours):
  • Milling and Paving:
    • Milling will occur Monday and Tuesday. This is subject to change.
  • Parking changes:
    • Beginning Tuesday, parking will be removed to match the project plans. Click here to view the plans.
    • Once milling is complete, parking will only be allowed on one side of Main Street.
Week of June 23 (Daytime Hours):
  • Paving work will finish.

Future Overnight Work:
  • Pavement markings will begin the week of June 30, depending on weather and crew availability.
  • Crosswalks will be repainted first, followed by bike lanes and other lane lines.

Main Street - Albany to Technology Square

Upcoming Work:

  • We are currently working with our contractor to schedule flex-post installations. The date of this work is unknown. Sign up for Main Street email updates to find out when the work is scheduled.
