MBTA Porter Square Station - Training Exercise

Overnight, begining at 130 a.m. on August 7, 2025, Cambridge Fire & Somerville Fire Tech Rescue Fire Companies, with Professional Ambulance, Transit Police, MBTA officials, MA DOT & MA DPU ran a Tech Rescue drill at Porter MBTA Red Line Station. A simulated injured T worker was treated, packaged, & extricated via stokes stretcher, which was brought to the surface by mulitple hauling systems.

Porter is one of the deepest subway stations in North America. After the "patient" was manually carried up a shorter flight of stairs from platform level, hauling systems were set up for movement of the patient to the upper levels. One hauling system was utilized to bring the "patient" up an approximatley 165' escalator to the ticket mezzanine level. A second hauling system was used to bring the "patient" up another approximately 75' to the surface level.

Note that all escalators & elevators were Out of Service for the exercise.

Cambridge & Somerville Fire Tech Rescue companies worked seamlessly to get the job done safely, smoothly, and quickly.

Cambridge Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Squad 4, Division 2, and Special Ops and Safety & Someville Engine 1, Tower 1, and Training & Safety worked at the "incident."

Cambridge group 3 was on duty.

The incident prep, staging, briefing, etc. was actually started prio to 1230 a.m. The exercise was terminated at approximately 330 a.m.
