1/16/2019 7:27 p.m. There will be emergency demolition work that will begin tonight, January 16, beginning at approximately 8pm.  This work is to demolish the fire damaged building at the corner of Cambridge Street and Hunting Street. The demolition is expected to be completed by midnight, however, crews will be working into the early morning to secure and cover the site. No debris will be removed this evening. Residents can expect the area to be illuminated and noise from machinery conducting the work. The Cambridge Fire Department, Inspectional Services, and the Department of Public Works will be on scene. If you have questions about this emergency demolition, please call the emergency communications center at 617-349-3300. Since the building is unsafe it has be removed immediately.

Senior Discount Water-Sewer Program


Because of the impact the water and sewer rate increases may have on senior citizens, the City offers a Senior Discount Water/Sewer Program. All residents 65 years of age or older who own and occupy their one, two or three family home are eligible for a 15% discount on water/sewer charges, not to exceed $90.00 per year.

Additional Information

Any resident who was granted a Clause 41C elderly exemption on their current fiscal year real estate taxes will receive a 30% discount not to exceed $180 per year. The City automatically grants this discount where applicable; therefore, you do not need to apply for it.

Tips and FAQs

Do I need to reapply every year?

If you are currently receiving the discount, you will continue to receive it and you need NOT reapply.

What are the age requirements?

If you own and occupy your one, two, or three family home and will be 65 or older by July 1 of the fiscal year of the discount.
