The Cambridge Fire Department will resume the inspections to ensure compliance with MGL Ch. 148; Sec. 26F and 26F ½ effective Monday July 6, 2020, for properties that will be sold after July 8, 2020.

All residential units to be inspected must be vacated by all occupants prior to the inspection being conducted. The member of the department conducting the inspection will wear a mask. A single owner or owners’ representative may accompany the firefighter conducting the inspection and must also wear a mask.

All appointments and payments for inspections must be made on-line using the City of Cambridge Permitting and Licensing System.

The fee(s) for the inspections are as follows:

  • $50.00 for a single dwelling unit
  • $100.00 for two dwelling units
  • $150.00 for three to six dwelling units
  • $500.00 for seven or more dwelling units

In accordance with the Executive Order issued by Governor Baker on March 20, 2020 residential units sold from that date forward must now be inspected by the fire department.

For properties sold between March 20, 2020 and July 8, 2020 the Fire Prevention Bureau should be contacted to schedule the appointments.
