Description

Calendar event image

Join Nicholas Dawidoff, the author of The Other Side of Prospect A Story of Violence, Injustice, and the American City, in conversation with Maya Jasanoff at the Main Library.

One New Haven summer evening in 2006, a retired grandfather was shot point-blank by a young stranger. A hasty police investigation culminated in innocent sixteen-year-old Bobby being sentenced to prison for thirty-eight years. New Haven native and acclaimed author Nicholas Dawidoff returned home and spent eight years reporting the deeper story of this injustice, and what it reveals about the enduring legacies of social and economic disparity. Nicholas Dawidoff is the critically acclaimed author of five books, including The Catcher Was a Spy and In the Country of a Country. He is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and has also been a Guggenheim, Berlin Prize, and Art for Justice Fellow.

Maya Jasanoff is the author of three prize-winning books including The Dawn Watch: Joseph Conrad in a Global World (Penguin Press, 2017) which examines the dynamics of modern globalization through the life and times of the novelist Joseph Conrad, and Liberty’s Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World (Knopf, 2011), which presents the first global history of the loyalists who fled the United States after the American Revolution and resettled elsewhere in the British Empire.
