Patients are no longer willing to leave science to the scientists. They are gathering and analyzing their own medical data, using the internet to find one another, and joining others in chat groups and organized online communities. Pursuing cures for your own disease or for someone you love is daunting. Come hear how others have done it and some of the resources and tools that can help patients and their advocates advance medical research.

Amy Marcus is a health and science writer for the Wall Street Journal and author of We the Scientists: How A Daring Team of Parents and Doctors Forged A New Path for Medicine. The book follows for more than a decade a group of parents of children with a fatal genetic disorder and the scientists and doctors with whom they form an innovative collaboration to try to find a drug for the condition.

This event is part of Cambridge Science Festival, a celebration showcasing the leading edge in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). A multifaceted, multicultral event, the Festival makes science accessible, interactive and fun, highlighting the impact of STEAM in all our lives.
