Join the Cambridge Youth Gamelan as we celebrate the end of our 5th anniversary season! In this performance, you will hear traditional Balinese music performed on the gamelan gong kebyar, one of the most popular ensembles in Bali. You will learn how the music is arranged in complex rhythmic and melodic layers and how the musicians learn to play. At the end of the performance, audience members will be invited onto the stage to try out the instruments and learn a short piece of music together.

About the Cambridge Youth Gamelan

Gamelan Anak Tika (Cambridge Youth Gamelan) teaches youth about traditional gamelan music and dance of Bali, Indonesia through hands-on learning experiences delivered by experienced instructors. Our group is open to students in Grades 2 – 11 regardless of prior musical experience. We are an inclusive community of eager learners and we love welcoming new members to our group.

We are proudly supported by MIT (Music & Theater Arts) and private donors in the Cambridge community and beyond. We have also been supported by the Mass Cultural Council and Cambridge Arts Council in 2015-16 and 2017-18, and we have a recently received a COVID-19 Recovery Grant through the Mass Cultural Council in March 2023. Cosponsored by Cambridge Public Library.
