On Thursday, September 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., we will hold a community open house to discuss safety improvements to Garden Street between Huron Avenue and Mason Street. This open house follows the fourth community meeting, which takes place on September 20, two days prior.
The community open house will take place on the brick sidewalk at the intersection of Garden Street and Concord Avenue, near Follen Street. We will have boards with key project information as well as a roll plan of the street showing the full extent of the preferred layout.
Attendees do not need to stay for the full two hours, but can drop by at any time. Information shared at this open house will include only what is discussed at the September 20 meeting: no new information will be shared. Instead, community members will be able to drop by in-person to talk to city staff, view plans, and discuss the anticipated changes.
Feedback from our first three community meetings identified a preferred layout that converts the section of Garden Street from Huron Avenue to Concord Avenue to a one-way for vehicles. People biking would travel in both directions, with one-way separated bike lanes on each side of the street, while vehicles would travel eastbound (toward Harvard Square).
