The Frances Addelson Shakespeare Players will present William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Main Library Lecture Hall on November 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on November 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and November 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Widely considered Shakespeare’s best comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is also, of all his plays, most accessible to youngsters. To better accommodate families, November 6 and 12 will be weekend matinée performances.

In the play, the King of Fairies plays a trick on his Queen employing the mischievous Puck, who then sets in motion troubles among four Athenian lovers, while a troupe of town craftsmen rehearse their own play for the Duke’s upcoming wedding, Puck turns one of them into an Ass, a flock of fairies dance their Fairy Queen to sleep before she awakens only to fall in love with the Ass, and the Duke tries to solve the lovers’ legal dilemmas and mend his relationship with his fiancé, an Amazonian Queen.

Watching the ruckus from his invisible perch, Puck cheerfully declares to the dismayed King of Fairies, “Lord, What fools these mortals be!”

The Shakespeare Players last performed Twelfth Night at the Library to great acclaim and a full house in November 2019.

Registration is required.
