Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences.       Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Yi-An Huang will host a community meeting on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, 102 Putnam Avenue to discuss the fatal officer-involved shooting of Sayed Faisal that occurred on January 4, 2023.

      The year of Tiger 2022 is approaching an end, and the year of the Rabbit is coming. Join Zhonghe (Elena) Li to create your own Chinese papercuts. You can choose to cut a tiger, a rabbit, or snowflakes, and more! Elena will show you the technique and how to use papercuts to tell your own stories. This workshop is open to all ages. This program is co-sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library and Cambridge Arts Council which is a local agency of the Mass Cultural Council.     • Sewing 101 (Main)

      In this 90-minute class, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
