    • Exhibition: From Cambridge to Yerevan: 35 Years of Friendship

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      On display March 1 - April 28 The Cambridge-Yerevan Sister City Association (CYSCA) was founded in 1987, in response to the Cold War, as a project of the Cambridge Peace Commission. Through its mission to foster friendship, trust and dynamic interaction between the people of Cambridge, Mass. and Yerevan, Armenia, CYSCA has built links between community members and worked towards public awareness of issues of mutual concern. CYSCA has made its mark in both communities with the implementation of numerous professional development programs, reciprocal youth exchanges, supportive assistance to schools in Armenia, and frequent participation in the Cambridge Science Festival. The exhibit in the lobby and second floor of the Main Library features artifacts, proclamations, photographs, posters, artworks and news clips reflecting on CYSCA's past 35 years with more years and projects to come.

    • Women's History Month Art Contest

      In honor of Women's History Month, the Office of Mayor Siddiqui, Community Art Center, The Cambridge Public Library, Cambridge Public Schools, and Cambridge Arts are hosting an art contest! Artwork that celebrates women's history and friendship will be eligible to win a prize and be included in an exhibition at City Hall. Winners announced March 28th.

    • Marking Their Place in History: Cambridge Black Trailblazers

      Join us for an exhibit of Cambridge Black Trailblazers, curated by the Cambridge Black History Project, on display at the Main Library from January 26 to February 28. Fifteen extraordinary Black Cantabrigians, whose lives and accomplishments have often been overlooked, will be featured in this exhibition: Roy Allen, Actor, TV Stage Manager, Director, Producer, Creator Joyce London Alexander, Chief US Magistrate Judge Barbara Ward Armstrong, Artist, Musician, Creator Olive Benson, Innovative Hair-Care Entrepreneur Calvin Burnett, Daring Artist and Gifted Teacher Dr. June Christmas, Pioneer in Public Health Dr. Cheryl Townsend Gilkes, Faith and Action Charles LeRoy Gittens, Secret Service Agent Johnny Hodges, Jazz Saxophonist Extraordinaire Kittie Towle Knox, Cycling Pioneer and Champion Racer Gertrude Wright Morgan, Teacher and a Force for Change Henry F. Owens, Entrepreneur Elizabeth Miller Rawlins, Teacher, Educational Leader, and Advocate for Educational Equity and Opportunity Gus Solomons Jr., Contemporary Dancer, Innovator, Mentor Leon West, Chef The exhibit is on display in the lobby, on the second floor, and on the gallery wall on L2. Illustrated bookmarks, created by the Cambridge Black History Project detailing the lives of these Black Trailblazers, will be available. Join us for an opening reception on January 26 at 6:30 pm.

    • [CLASS FULL] Wellness for Seniors: Tai Chi Paradigm - Level 1 (Main)

      Sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation Join us in this 12-week Tai Chi practice, which focuses on the mind and body connection. Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. Sifu Mynor Diaz has been learning and teaching Tai Chi classes for over 20 years. He has taught classes at five VA Boston Healthcare System locations and at Senior Centers. Due to the popularity of this series we expect participants to attend all the classes.       Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences.
