    • Exhibition: From Cambridge to Yerevan: 35 Years of Friendship

      On display March 1 - April 28 The Cambridge-Yerevan Sister City Association (CYSCA) was founded in 1987, in response to the Cold War, as a project of the Cambridge Peace Commission. Through its mission to foster friendship, trust and dynamic interaction between the people of Cambridge, Mass. and Yerevan, Armenia, CYSCA has built links between community members and worked towards public awareness of issues of mutual concern. CYSCA has made its mark in both communities with the implementation of numerous professional development programs, reciprocal youth exchanges, supportive assistance to schools in Armenia, and frequent participation in the Cambridge Science Festival. The exhibit in the lobby and second floor of the Main Library features artifacts, proclamations, photographs, posters, artworks and news clips reflecting on CYSCA's past 35 years with more years and projects to come.

      In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the reading are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you get a copy.
