  Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Teens are invited to learn more and apply on the iFp website: Innovators for Purpose. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program.   Exhibit Hours Monday - Thursday: 5-9 Saturday: 9-5 Sunday: 1-5 Kristen Emack has been photographing her daughter and nieces for over a decade. "There is something sacred about the lives of girls, and their innocent, confident relationships to themselves, their world and one another is gravitational," explains Emack. She has captured the girls' childhood in an unfiltered way as they move with confidence throughout Cambridge and their environment. Her work is an undeniable celebration of Black girlhood. "There are notable bodies of work about girlhood, but Cousins is unique. It chronicles the lives of girls of color, which is a perspective that still remains under-embraced," writes Emack. "Additionally, each frame is wholly female." Angst or distraction does not enter the frame. Instead it's their connection that stays in focus, their adolescent changes are organic, subtle and unprovocative." Emack is a 2022 Guggenheim Fellow, a MacDowell Fellow, and a Mass Cultural Council Fellow. Her work has been featured in Vogue Italia and National Geographic and has been exhibited across the United States, Northern Europe and the UK. This exhibit, Emack's first in Cambridge, features the Library's newly acquired photographs from Cousins and celebrates Emack's work in the community. View these exciting new additions to the permanent collection of Library's Archives and Special Collections on display at the Main Library on L2. Join us for an opening reception on September 21 at 6:30 pm with a panel discussion by Kristen Emack, Dr. Alisa Victoria Prince, and cousins Apple Emack, Leyah Bernard, Kayla Bernard and Layla Bernard, as they discuss the process, inspiration, and impact of Cousins.

  Create beautiful paintings with watercolor at the Collins Branch! Learn to paint with watercolor at your own pace in a fun and relaxing environment. We will cover techniques in color mixing, observational painting, composition, wet on wet and wet on dry techniques, masking, pressing, shading, light techniques, ink washes, and pattern making. No experience necessary. Registration is required. Brooke Lambert is a professional printmaker and painter with a passionate interest and dedication to the arts, teaching, arts organizing and public art initiatives. She grew up and lived in Maine before moving to Boston to pursue her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Since graduating in 2017, Brooke has shown her work widely in New England, New York, and beyond. You can see Brooke’s work in Studio 447 at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts in her current city of Lowell, MA. She is currently represented by galleries Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in New York.   My Brother’s Keeper Cambridge and Harvard & the Legacy of Slavery Initiative are pleased to invite you to the first in a series of community conversations to spark dialogue, engagement and empowerment for the reparative work ahead between our community and Harvard University, following the release of the university’s report disclosing its historical ties to slavery and its commitment of a $100 million endowment to support reparative efforts. This series kickoff event will take place on Tuesday September 19 at the Main Library Library. from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. The event includes a short-film screening highlighting the report and a panel discussion with Vincent Brown, Melissa Wood Bartholomew and Terrance Mitchell, moderated by Tony Clark. Through the discussion, panelists will inform the community about the report, its findings, and aim to energize the community about our involvement in the collective work ahead of us.
