City reminds residents and visitors that masks may only be removed outside when 6 foot social distancing is possible.

The City of Cambridge announced today that it will remain at Phase IV, Step 1 of the Commonwealth’s Reopening Plan and will not advance past Phase IV, Step 1 on May 10, 2021.

On April 27, 2021, Governor Baker had announced that effective May 10, 2021 certain additional activities will be permitted in the state pursuant to the Commonwealth's Reopening Plan, but those additional activities, which include indoor singing at restaurants and venues, will not be permitted in Cambridge until further notice.

Currently, Cambridge is designated as a low-risk green community by the Commonwealth with a positivity rate of 0.32%, and 62% of Cambridge residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. However, the City of Cambridge will continue to take a cautious approach to its reopening strategy by delaying moving to Phase IV, Step 2 as the City only advanced to Phase IV, Step 1 on May 6, 2021.

As a reminder, under the City’s mask order, masks or face coverings may only be removed outside when six foot distancing is possible. Masks or face coverings are required at all times at indoor and outdoor venues and events, except when eating or drinking, and, in residential buildings of two or more units, masks are required prior to entering any common area. The City of Cambridge continues to require that employees of places of business may remove masks or cloth face coverings only when working alone in an individual office with a door closed or when working alone in an office suite with no other individuals present. Masks must be worn at all other times in places of business.

If public health metrics justify continued safe reopening in Cambridge, the City will announce further reopening plans at www.cambridgema.gov/covid19.

Residents are encouraged to get vaccinated and are reminded that the City of Cambridge provides free daily COVID-19 testing at various sites across the City. Appointments and additional information about this program are available at www.cambridgema.gov/testing.
