This active branch shares its site with the Peabody School and the Center for Families, making it a popular destination for neighbors, students and their parents.
Opened in 1902, the O’Neill Branch in North Cambridge is one of the larger and busier branches in the City. This location is especially popular for families and children. The library has a variety of books, magazines, and DVDs for all ages available. Regular programs include two ESL groups, a monthly book group for adults, toddler time, and story time. The branch also has a display case that features the work of a local artist or group of artists each month. Check out the calendar of events for more programming information.
The O’Neill Branch became the home of a 35-foot mural honoring statesman and Cantabrigian Thomas “Tip” O’Neill on December 9, 2012, what would have been his 100th birthday. The mural depicts the U.S. Congressman and Speaker of the House with family members, his constituency and his mentors, along with stories from O’Neill’s life and ties to the local community. The mural, painted by artists Joshua Winer and David Fichter, tops off a year-long centennial celebration of O’Neill’s life held by the City of Cambridge.
