Basketball Court Renovations ($350,000)

Committee: Youth

Cost: $350,000

Location: To be determined based on need and impact assessments.

Short Description: Upgrade an outdoor basketball court! This project will resurface a court most in need of repairs, paint new lines, and install adjustable hoops or inclusive play for all ages in important community locations.

Long Description:

This project will provide funding to improve one of the most important community spaces in the city for residents of all ages - basketball courts! This proposal will support the resurfacing of one basketball court, newly painted lines, and the addition of new, adjustable hoops.

As some of the most heavily used community spaces in the city, basketball courts often suffer some wear and tear from frequent playing, and there are several courts in the city in need of resurfacing. While still playable, worn out courts may be uneven due to roots growing under them and cracked pavement, which could cause the ball to bounce in unexpected ways and affect the quality of games.

This year, there were also several ideas for hoops that are a little lower so that they are most accessible to community members of all abilities. This proposal will also support the installation of new hoops that are also adjustable in height, making courts adaptable to players of all abilities. These improvements will not only benefit the people that play on our courts every day, but also anyone who values our open spaces!
