Apply for a Letting of Motor Vehicle License

License Commission

Letting of Motor Vehicle Licenses are issued by the Cambridge License Commission pursuant to and in accordance with the Special Acts of 1930, c. 121. It takes approximately four to six weeks for an application to be processed and a license to be issued, if approved.

How to Start

Step 1:

Applicant will complete the online Letting of Motor Vehicle Application.

Step 2:

The applicant will attach the follow to the online application do submit the following to the License Commission:

  • A completed Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Form for the owner and manager of record
  • if a corporation, copy of the Articles of Organization or Business Certificate from the City Clerk's Office; and
  • lease or letter of intent from landlord.

Step 3:

After your application is reviewed by a staff member, you will be invoiced for the Hearing ($100), Advertising ($75) and CORI ($10 each) Fees.

The License Commission schedules a hearing. Prior to the hearing, the applicant must notify its legal abutters by sending a copy of the advertisement by certified mail (return receipt requested) within three days after advertising, and at least ten days before the hearing. The applicant must submit certified mail receipts to verify contact with abutters.

Step 4:

The applicant must submit sketches or plans for approval from ISD's building inspector. If the applicant has a current Certificate of Occupancy, this sign-off is not required.

Step 5:

If approved by the License Commission, a license will be issued once the license fees are paid and ISD's building inspection approval is submitted.
